When it comes to the maintenance of your tires, Steingold Volvo wants you to do your PART! Learning about proper tire care and safety is not only simple and easy, but it's important for the life of your new or used car.
We recommend checking your tires monthly, including the spare. Unfortunately, most drivers easily forget about keeping up with the care of their tires. That's why we want to educate drivers near the Rhode Island/Providence and Massachusetts area about the importance of staying safe on the road. By taking the right steps with your tires, you can ensure that you won't be left stranded on the side of the road or involved in an accident. If you think you may have a tire problem, are unsure about the condition of your current tires, or have any questions, consult one of the Steingold Volvo Service Advisors as soon as possible.
Learning "PART" is a great way to know about what's most important for your tires:
(P) for Pressure:
Checking your tire pressure on a monthly basis is one of the most important steps you can take towards proper care. Driving on under-inflated tires can cause unnecessary stress, irregular wear, loss of control, and accidents. Even if you think your tires are fine, just remember that a tire can lose up to half its air pressure and not appear to be flat! Under-inflation can also reduce your gas mileage.
(A) for Alignment:
If your vehicle is pulling to one side, or shaking, it might be time to have your alignment checked. Common situations like driving over a curb or pothole can throw your front end out of alignment and even cause damage to your tires. At Boston Volvo Village, we can check your alignment periodically to ensure that your car is safe and properly aligned.
(R) for Rotation:
By regularly rotating your vehicle's tires, you will help to achieve more uniform wear that tires should experience. Unless your vehicle owner's manual has specific recommendations for special tire maintenance, it's good to have your tires rotated approximately every 5,000 miles. Most drivers typically rotate their tires when they stop in for an oil change.
(T) for Tread:
For the tread on your tires, it's
best to do two things: measure it and inspect it. Look for any advanced or
unusual wear around your tires. Worn-down tread can significantly reduce the
ability of your tires to grip the road in adverse conditions. Look for high and
low areas or unusually smooth areas. Also check for signs of damage. Ensuring
that your tread is in good shape can secure your safety on the road -
especially on long road trips.
